Dark Gray Bedroom Accent Wall
Painting a dark gray bedroom accent wall added some serious drama to this space! We gave our boring, builder grade master bedroom a makeover by painting a dark gray accent wall and contrasting it against white linens and brass sconces.
I'm so excited to share our master bedroom makeover with you today!
I'm one of those people who needs my bedroom to feel like a calm sanctuary so this room was top of the list for a makeover.
This redo was completely DIY and very budget-friendly. I hope you enjoy seeing what we did with the space and get some inspiration for your own home.
Painting the Dark Gray Bedroom Accent Wall
Our bedroom before had two adjacent walls painted a light, purply grey. The color wasn't my favorite and the paint line was noticeably wavy by the ceiling.
I decided to paint the side wall white to match the other walls and chose to do a dark gray accent wall behind the bed. The color I used is Gray by Benjamin Moore. (Yes, it's actually just called Gray.) It's a rich charcoal that leans just the tiniest bit navy.
Full Length White Curtains to Soften the Room
One of the biggest changes to make our bedroom feel cozier was adding curtains. The window wall before looked so bare and cold — the full length white curtains really soften it.
We got the (very affordable) Hilja curtains and Räcka curtain rods from IKEA.
Luckily, the holes and drywall plugs were already in place from the previous owners, which made hanging everything a breeze.
You can also see in the photos above that we swapped out our dresser as well. The old one looked a bit dwarfed by the TV so rather than painting it we opted to replace it with the white Malm dresser.
New White Bedding Contrasts Against the Dark Gray Accent Wall
We replaced our dark blue bedding with white, which I think contrasts nicely against the accent wall.
The sheets are simple white jersey sheets from Target (my fiancé's favorite kind and the only must-have he had for the room!).
The knit blanket I found secondhand (and washed thoroughly), and the throw pillows came with our couch but I thought they worked great in this room.
Adding Decor to the Master Bedroom
Paint, curtains, and a new dresser were the only "big" changes in the room. After that it was time for the fun, finishing touches of decor to make the room look more lived in.
I added brass sconces from Amazon and hung a custom map from Mapiful above the bed. The magnetic poster frame also came from Amazon.
I built a super easy and inexpensive shelf to hold some secondhand decor pieces and a plant. This post has instructions on how to build one yourself, plus links to the materials I used.
Hats on the wall are super trendy right now and I'm glad! It makes for a clever way to disguise the bright red fire alarm.
Across from our bed I hung this trio of woven placemats that I picked up from the thrift store for ~$1 each.
Wicker placemats and baskets are usually pretty easy to find secondhand but if you aren't spotting any Amazon has a good selection of them as well.
The last little decor piece I added was the basket on my fiancé's nightstand.
I prefer a clutter-free look on nightstands so as a compromise I got a large decorative basket that does a good job concealing the things he likes to leave out.
That's it for our master bedroom makeover! I hope you enjoyed taking a look around.
